Supercross is produced by entertainement giant Clear Channel and often sells out stadiums around the country for the 18-round World Championship. The amount of spectators exceeds 700,000 every season and Clear Channel’s “Bar to Bar” DVD enjoys great sells. It is big business. In fact, 20th Century Fox will release “Supercross, the Movie”, on theaters nationwide, in two months. Paramount and Tom Cruise will produce a movie based on James “Bubba” Stewart’s life. Stewart is the “Tiger Woods” of Supercross, he has been a guest on all major TV shows, from Leno to Letterman, to Brokaw, etc. “60 minutes” has also done a feature on Supercross last year, and “Sports Illustrated” features Ricky Carmichael and Stewart among the best athletes all-sports combined. While Supercross is enjoying such mainstream attention, it seemed to me like a paradox that no-one ever documented its History extensely ! This book is the first and only one to ever tell the whole American-born sport of Supercross’ history. The book is 210 pages, glossy paper, thick hard cover, 4 pounds heavy, luxuary coffee-table item. It is a limited edition, 4500 copies have been made. It features more than 700 photos, never-seen-before on a US publication. The photo archives are from Moto Revue and Moto Verte Magazines (Editions Lariviere). Moto Verte is the leading off-road publication in Europe and the only one in the world to have covered Supercross from its beginnings in 1972 at the L.A. Coliseum to the triple Anaheim saga of today and kept archives of it. My work was edited by two of the leading US reporters, Paul Boudreau, who was the original editor for Motocross Action, and Ken Faught, the editor of Dirt Rider. It is a picturesque book but there is also a lot of exclusive stories. Sports’ year-to-year and overall description and analysis, rider’s profiles, as well as all the stats, and more, are included.
